For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Despite the pressures and challenges that surround the church in Colossae, it is a church that as the Apostle Paul writes, continues to walk in obedience and faithfulness. In a Roman world, with the distractions and deceit of false power and belief, Paul continues to remind this young church of the new life that they have in Christ. He writes with affection and joy from prison as he hears the news of the fruitfulness and love exhibited by the Colossians. The gospel has taken root in their hearts and is bearing fruit (1:6). Jesus is their Lord and King, and with that comes a new way of living – a life of peace that comes from knowing freedom, forgiveness and discipline. A life lived in a new community under King Jesus.
Yet Paul also writes with a warning. Different ideologies and religious variations are being presented to the community, seeking to distract and distort the faith. And so, Paul, with clarity and vision outlines why Jesus is truly king and what it looks like to live under his reign and rule. And when Jesus is on the throne - it changes everything. We are invited into a new way of living – a life of power and authority in the Kingdom of God. A life in Christ. The challenge and invitation that Paul makes to that early Colossian church is the same for us today. As we surrender and die to self, we are made alive. We are free. We find peace. That is a life worth living. And that is worth shouting from the rooftops!

Small Group Connect Nights
An easy way to try a small group and meet new people.
Join with others from NewHope as we move through our small group series on Colossians throughout term 3. Attend with your small group or, if you're not currently in a group, come along and meet with others also looking to join a group at NewHope.
At each night we will share dinner together, receive some input from a member of the NewHope pastoral team and then will split off into small groups for discussion. All are welcome whether you've been at NewHope for many years or are just starting out; we would love to share dinner and discussion with you!
Starting Tuesday 28 July for 8 weeks, 7:00-8:30pm each night at NewHope. There's no cost, but please register to let us know you're coming.
