Advocating for Change

Advocating for Change by Hannah Freeman

At the end of last year I had the privilege of participating in some advocacy work with Micah Australia, an organisation dedicated to empowering Australian Christians to advocate for global justice.

As part of my involvement, I had the privilege of meeting with Mr. Keith Wolahan MP and Dr. Monique Ryan MP to advocate for Micah’s Safer World campaign. In recognition of the compounding crises of famine, disease, conflict, rising debt, and more, we asked our local MPs to support an increase to Australian Aid in the upcoming Federal budget from 0.68% to a modest 1%.

In August 2023, I had participated in some lobbying in Canberra with Micah’s Women Leaders Network which was part of the groundwork for launching the Safer World campaign, so rolling it out was a special full-circle moment.

It has deeply impacted me to be swept up in a movement with a passion for the most vulnerable and grown in me a sense of urgency to speak up for values of compassion, generosity, justice, and mercy. The experience as a whole has reaffirmed the power of joining the collective voice as we ask for change.
