Shift Youth Update

Published on March 18, 2020

With the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and the new recommendations from the Health Department and Australian Government, we have been rethinking the way Shift Youth will run. The team is currently dreaming and planning for what Term 2 will look like as we take a new approach. For the last two weeks of Term 1, Shift Youth will continue to run, but meet in their small groups, either in isolated room at our church or at the homes of our families and/or leaders.

We have also taken necessary measures to ensure an increased level of hygiene and sanitation at all of our small group gatherings, this includes:

  • Hand sanitiser
  • Sanitised high use areas (door handles etc.)
  • Gloves and tongs for food handling
  • Hand washing

At this stage we unfortunately have to announce that Year 11+12 Camp has been postponed, until further notice. With increasing restrictions, and a widening spread we think it be wise to keep our young people safe, and do our part to help stop the spread in large groups.

In line with government advice, we remind all youth, leaders and parents that if you develop cold and flu viral symptoms such as fever, you are requested to self-quarantine, report to your doctor or a hospital emergency department for testing and inform NewHope as soon as possible.

Any youth or leader who has been in contact with a person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 should self-quarantine for 14 days from the last date of contact with an infected individual.

We’d also like to encourage our community that self-quarantine is recommended not only to protect yourself, but also any vulnerable people in our community (elderly, small children etc.).

At this stage we are not aware of any outbreaks within our Youth Ministry, but we will keep our community well informed during this season.

Please contact your small group leader for details on where each group will be meeting this week Friday night.

Thank you for your prayer and cooperation during this time. We will aim to keep everyone as up to date as possible.
