This week we celebrate NewHopers, Chris and Lyn Russell.
Chris and Lyn are part of a voluntary team called VCC (Victorian Council of Churches) Emergency Ministries. This team is called to emergency relief centres around Victoria after significant emergencies and disasters have occurred. Their role is to listen and provide care for often very traumatised Victorians who may only come in with no more than the clothes on their backs. They give emotional and spiritual care, compassion and empathy to help people discover their journey to healing.
Back in the summer of 2019-20, Chris and Lyn served during the Black Summer Bushfires. They were ”two of many others that devoted so much time in Mallacoota, Bairnsdale, Sale,” said Lyn. They were both awarded the National Emergency Medal which is approved by the monarch through the governor-general. During the ceremony, the presenter noted, “The state is very happy to have the team as part of the response to this crisis”.
Thank you NewHope for your prayers and support of Chris and Lyn. They are so very thankful to their church family for supporting them to do this important ministry.
Please continue to pray for the ministry of VCC Emergency Ministries as they send out workers to support the hundreds of Victorians impacted by the floods at this time.
