An Update from Danny & Beth Hunt

Published on July 5, 2022

Danny and Beth joined Baptist Mission Australia in 2021. They are a part of the Outback Australia team and on location in the Northern Territory for three extended periods of time each year, strengthening the team’s capacity to be alongside Indigenous leaders and churches in remote desert communities.

Along with the rest of the team they are listening to our Warlpiri and Gurindji peoples. This involves ongoing learning, planning and training as they walk alongside others in encouraging national reconciliation, and share a commitment to bring the hope Jesus.

A story from Danny & Beth:

On Good Friday, adults, youth and children gathered for the purlapa (corroboree) of the Easter story. Saturday night lots of people from the local community joined in the BBQ meal before a big night of worship, items and challenge. Some slept out in the open together to see the sun come up, remembering the first Easter Sunday! Then after a service which included child dedications, we headed out bush to a dam for baptisms, and then communion together sharing damper and billy tea. It was so inspiring to celebrate with our Indigenous brothers and sisters. We were very impacted seeing the respective community groups gathering around those being dedicated and baptised, and each dedication and baptism being led by leaders from communities other than their own.

Pray for Danny & Beth:

On July 7th to 11th, 2022, leaders from the various remote communities will be gathering for the Leaders’ Bush Camp. These Bush Camps have been one of the main ways the leaders from the 6 remote desert communities (Yuendumu, Ali Curung, Willowra, Murray Downs, Lajamanu and Kalkarindji) connect and grow. The Indigenous leaders decide on our location and focus for this time. This time it will be held out bush a couple hours from Yuendumu. Our Baptist Mission Australia Outback team helps with logistics, but is primarily there initially to listen and observe. Then we are asked to share our reflections. We learn from them so much a step at a time, trusting that together we all get to a new place before we leave.

  • Please PRAY for the community leaders planning the July Bush Camp and for a fruitful time together.
  • Please PRAY for more full-time people to join the Outback team, so we can be more present in both the northern and the southern communities.
  • Please PRAY for peacemakers in Yuendumu, amongst community conflict and tension.

Your partnership in prayer, growing relationship and ongoing finance is a key for us and our team. We know we do this with you. Thank you!
