Our NewHope Baptist Church Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 29 March.
We are now getting accustomed to the hybrid format (in-person and online meeting) as members and supporters of NewHope meet together for members meetings. The quorum was reached and the meeting commenced by 7:45pm. Amanda Carruthers, Church Secretary, chaired the meeting.
The following items were discussed and decided on:
The Minutes of the Annual General Meeting 2020 held on the 30th of November were noted as approved by Church Council following the Annual General Meeting.
Outcome of auction to purchase 3 Dale Court Blackburn North: The Chair reported that the Church purchased the property at auction for the sum of $1.19M.
Endorsement of Church Council Members for next two-year term in accordance with clause 7.8.1 of the Church Constitution.
(a) Andrew Gale was endorsed for the position of Finance Director.
(b) Liza Somers was endorsed as an ordinary member of Church Council
(c) Tristan Ellett was endorsed as an ordinary member of Church Council
As the number of members endorsed was equal to the number of vacancies, the Chair declared each of the candidates above appointed to the positions for which they were endorsed.
Annual Report: Liza Somers and Darryn Hockley presented and reflected on the Annual Report which was distributed prior to the meeting.
Financial Report: Finance Director Andrew Gale presented the 2020 Financial Accounts prior to Audit.
2021 Financial Update: Finance director Andrew Gale presented Report (pre audit)
Appointment of auditors: It was resolved to appoint RDL Accountants as Auditors for the 2021 financial year (Jan-Dec).
Moved: Amanda Carruthers. Seconded: Barrie Sutton.
Ministry Updates: Members were invited to raise any matters concerning ministry matters. Attention was drawn to the printed annual report.
Questions
It was noted that NewHope Medical is not yet making a surplus. The Finance Director explained that we are seeking more GP’s to grow the practice and Church Council with the Finance Committee will be considering options for the medical centre in the next period.
It was noted that offering cannot be collected during the service at the moment due to COVID restrictions, but there are alternative means and opportunities to give in cash onsite, not only on Sundays at the giving hub in the main foyer but also through the week at the main reception.
Other business: No other matters were raised.
Close: There being no further business, the meeting was closed at 8.41pm.
